Internal Wall Insulation

How will internal wall insulation help me?

If your home was built before 1920 it is more likely to have solid walls and could be suitable for internal wall insulation.  One way to check if your home has solid walls is by looking at the brick pattern.  In most solid wall homes every other brick will probably be placed end-on, rather than all looking the same size.  Our Retrofit Assessor will be able to let you know which insulation is suitable for your home.

Internal wall insulation is an excellent cost-effective solution to significantly improve the thermal efficiency of your home, reduce energy bills and play a vital role in reducing carbon emissions.

Internal wall insulation

  • Reduces your heating bills
  • Improves comfort for you and your family
  • Helps to reduce your carbon footprint

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) suggests estimates that you could save up to £660 per year by installing solid wall insulation (January 2024).

Internal wall insulation is used to insulate solid wall properties by fitting insulation to the inside walls of your home, creating a thermal barrier between the inside of your home and the outdoors, dramatically reducing heat loss.  Additionally, internal wall insulation can improve the acoustic performance of the external walls within your home.

Installation

Internal wall insulation is installed by building a stud wall filled in with insulation material such as mineral wool fibre and should be considered when redecorating.

Before we complete any work, a technical survey is carried out by a Retrofit Assessor to check that the internal wall insulation system is suitable for your home. They will also let you know if furniture or other items need to be moved to allow the works to be completed.
To complete the works, we will need to extend electrical sockets and remove radiators and skirting boards.

We build an insulated stud frame to all outside walls internally, and insulation, and a vapour barrier are installed. Plasterboard is fixed on top of the vapour barrier and prepared for plastering, ready to decorate.

Grant Funding

Having internal wall insulation installed can increase the value of your home by improving the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating.

You may be able to access grant funding to support your internal wall insulation. Not all grant funding is means tested, and our team will always check to see if you can access grant funding.

You can also benefit from 0% VAT, which is available until 2027 on insulation installations and renewable energy upgrades.
