External Wall Insulation

How will external wall insulation help me?

If your home was built before 1920 it is more likely to have solid walls and could be suitable for external wall insulation.  One way to check if your home has solid walls is by looking at the brick pattern.  In most solid wall homes every other brick will probably be placed end-on, rather than all looking the same size.  Our Retrofit Assessor will be able to let you know which insulation is suitable for your home.

External wall insulation

  • Reduces your heating bills
  • It will make your home warmer and more comfortable
  • Helps reduce the outside noise

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) suggests estimates that you could save up to £660 per year by installing solid wall insulation (January 2024).

Installation

Installing external wall insulation takes around 7–10 days.  Scaffolding is put up so our installation team can access your walls easily and safely.

Before we start the insulation work, we will need to complete some ‘enabling works’.  This may include moving downpipes and gutters, making changes to rooflines, moving other fixtures and other works.  The walls are then insulated with a coloured render finish.  Some homes choose to have a brick effect or ‘brick slip’ finish

Any fixtures and fittings removed during the ‘enabling works’ are refitted.

Grant Funding

Having external wall insulation installed can increase the value of your home by improving the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating.

You may be able to access grant funding to support your external wall insulation. Not all grant funding is means tested, and our team will always check to see if you can access grant funding.

You can also benefit from 0% VAT, which is available until 2027 on insulation installations and renewable energy upgrades.
