Aran were successfully appointed by Suffolk County Council to support residents across Suffolk to undertake energy efficiency works. Working together as Warm Homes Healthy People, the councils across Suffolk secured funding via Local Authority Delivery (LAD) and Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) to assist residents across the private sector to complete energy efficiency improvements to their homes.
Aran have helped more than 500 residents access LAD and HUG funding to date, enabling the installation of one or more of the following: loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation, internal wall insulation, flat roof insulation, air source heat pumps, high heat retention storage heaters, solar PV and ventilation.
The Challenge
Patricia successfully secured grant funding to help improve her Suffolk home and reduce her energy bills. Patricia lives in a cavity wall home, which required insulating and had an uninsulated flat roof over the kitchen which meant this room was always chilly.
Insulating cavity walls is a relatively simple way to insulate a home and helps reduce heat loss by approximately 35%.
The Solution
In this instance, the LAD grant funding enabled Aran to provide cavity wall insulation, flat roof insulation and improve the ventilation in Patricia’s home.
The flat roof and cavity wall insulation was all completed externally, with little disruption to the residents. All the wet rooms in the home had mechanical ventilation installed to help reduce the risk of condensation and make the home healthier.
The Results
Patricia commented:
‘The cavity wall and flat roof insulation was completed in September 2023. Barbara at Aran was instrumental and the driving force to get the works undertaken and completed for which I am thankful.
I am very pleased with the work that has been done. The men who carried out the insulation and fans were friendly and professional and obviously took pride in their work. They left the areas clean once they had finished. With the cavity wall and flat roof insulation the kitchen is now warmer and more comfortable to work in.
The extraction fans do a good job and keep condensation at bay, which in turn helps to dry the walls, especially in the bathroom’.
Installing cavity wall and flat roof insulation will save Patricia approximately £400 per year on heating her home and reduce her carbon footprint.
